“Steady” Ed Headrick released the Midnight Flyer, the original disc designed specifically for the sport of Disc Golf, in 1978. The glow properties of the original Midnight Flyer not only opened up the ability to play disc golf at night, but more significantly added substantial weight to the disc making it an immediate player favorite. The added weight gave players the ability to throw much farther distances, and for years the Midnight Flyer held the distance record for disc flight. The original Midnight Flyers were sold in sets of 8 discs and are highly prized collectibles to this day.
DGA introduced a new Midnight Flyer series in 2013, on the 35th anniversary of the original launch. The DGA Squall was selected to be the first in the series, using current flying disc technology as a way to honor the legacy of these legendary discs. To date, seven different discs have been released in the new Midnight Flyer series, with the Pipeline now being #8.
Weights listed are scale-weight on all individually listed discs and often do not match manufacturer marked weights.
